Has sin disappeared?

November 14, 2009 By Sean Leave a Comment

Whenever we hear the word sin, we know that something good isn’t about to come up. The word sin makes us cringe because we know that we are guilty of it. One thing I noticed these days is that we barely hear of sin anymore – especially outside of church. What happened? Don’t we sin anymore?

The world makes sin desirable - making it the norm

The world makes sin desirable - making it the norm

Sin is becoming less and less real in our lives. The world has made it too common to be different. Church has made it too lenient to be despised, culture has made it too acceptable to be hated and we have made it too compromisable to be seen as how our God sees it.

Sin has now dominated our world. The media and the world caters to the evil in us – making the war between our sinful nature and our born-again being all the more in favor of sin.

Sin has now become the norm – disappearing as being once a proud word that everyone fears to commit at least to some degree. We don’t hear of sin anymore – but that doesn’t make it an excuse. Because of it’s commonness today, we need to be shaken of its reality. SIN IS REAL. It is dangerous and it will destroy you to hell.

You might think I’m a hard hitter on my messages. If that’s what it takes to make people realize sin’s reality again, then I will keep on reminding us about it no matter what it takes.

Sin is described as “vile, ugly, odious malignant, pestilent, pernicious, hideous, spiteful, poisonous, virulent, abominable, and deadly.”“

-The Sinfulness of Sin” by Jerry Bridges in Respectable Sins ( page 26)

Do you want to be described as such? I think not… These words are powerful words to describe something so evil and deadly and ugly – nothing can ever compare to the extent of sin’s nature.

There is a reason why Jesus died for us. It’s to save us from this very thing that we, on our own, can’t do anything about.

Sin is sin – punishable by death. Don’t make it any less than what it is.
