The greatest plot twist that ever happened: God and His Word

I love stories. Stories make up my life. I believe everything is made up of stories. When the world was void – when everything was empty, God was there. And I believe the stories were there as well. You and me, we were stories when we were yet unformed. And God chose us – stories floating in the emptiness of time and space – and gave us life. He made us real. He made us living beings. He made us humans – In His likeness and being.

Imagine a world without stories. Isn’t it dull? Isn’t it boring? Isn’t it in every way, unbearable? A world without stories is unimaginable. It is impossible. Every event, everything is a story in itself. And I believe that you and me, we were stories before God put us here on Earth to live out the story in us.

I believe we all have stories that we love. Be it Greek mythology or maybe one of Tolkien’s fantasy fiction stories or one of Stephanie Meyer’s (Yes I get to mention her because she’s very popular with the goosebumps genre) romantic tales. We all have stories that we love to hear.

But let’s take Greek mythology for an example. I love Greek mythology. It’s very rich and full of gods with different powers, different abilities and different attitudes and likeness. Most of the stories of the gods are tragic. Usually, it’s the gods that win and the humans that suffer. Why? I don’t know - probably because that’s how the Greeks pictured ther “gods.”

And it’s funny what the Greeks will do to please their “gods” they’d go to the most unimaginable extent. And how about the stories in the Bible about the gods of the Philistines? They’re either ruthless, gruesome and brutal or they’re perverted, malicious and downright evil.

Those are stories told to us. And we enjoy them. Why not? They amuse us, they help us to be informed about the past and they give us ideas how good or bad a story can get.

But all those stories are just stories – fantasy and/or fiction. They never claimed to be real, never were – they never had historical solidity. They’re ideas and narratives made by men. They are stories weaved by the minds of humans. But what about God? Does He have a story?

Let me tell you about the greatest story that I’ve ever read. It’s about a God who loved these “humans” so much that He sent to dwell among them His one and only Son who is pre-destined to die for all of them so that they would not suffer after they have spent their time on earth. This God loved them so much… So very much.

Was there ever a story like that one? I wouldn’t know. But what I do know is that this story is true. And it blew my mind away as I realized “Hey! This story is real!” Have you ever imagined the movie “The Lord of the Rings.” Becoming true? That is so awesome! Swords, magic, dragons and adventures – that would be really cool.

And this story - God’s story – it became true. It became real. It happened. Years ago.

Stories are not meant to be forgotten. Stories are meant to be lived. And I believe this story is, even now, living in the heart and mind of God. Isn’t that reason for us to be exceedingly glad? That we share God’s story in all it’s reality?

We are so fortunate that in our story – the story of us humankind – our God first loved us! Isn’t that alone more than enough reason for us to be immeasurably joyful in every way?

Sometimes we are so caught up with working our own stories – making our own world. That we fail to put God in, when in fact He is the main character - He is the only one who can save the plot from going to a tragic ending. God’s love is so beautiful and it makes our story divine – isn’t it so great that we are given a story such as this? And the best part of it is, it is ALL REAL.

Did free will ever exist? – God and choice

Indeed everything that God created is good. Though ever it can be used for malice and twisted into evil. It was October 1, 2008 and this thought just popped into my mind as I was swimming alone in a pool at Tropical Palace, trying to buff up my stamina for the supposed basketball game later that night.

And I deduced “How was it that the good God made is now widely used in ways that are unimaginably evil?” one thought came to my mind – Free Will

I once knew a pastor who told me about his views and beliefs of free will. He told me that free will never existed – why? Because the Bible never mentioned it. But I believe it exists - it is an unmentioned gift that God bestowed upon us and His angels. I believe the opposite of free will does not exist – Why?  Because even Balaam’s donkey had a sense of reason and free will. And animals are not supposed to have a soul – as far as we know at least. And because God is so Holy He cannot even begin to conjure evil in His own thoughts so how come it entered into our story? The story of God and the human race? It’s because of free will. Evil is not created. Evil is a choice.

I thought about it and it could just be true that it was free will that started all evil – the choices and little decisions we make each day. And the more I thought of it, the more that I dreaded it. I just wished there was absolute good – until I remembered the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

I was reminded that Jesus had free will of His own. But evil never entered His life. And His free will He used for God’s will – He used for Good alone. And it dawned on me that this free will God has gifted us with – we can use it for good as well because that’s how God originally intended it to be.

God is  so good that He gave men the gift of choice. He never interfered – never once did God possess a human being because He wants us to make choices of our own. And only through free will can we give 100% unblemished glory to our God because it will come from our choice to do so if we choose to.

By free will we have fallen, by free will we are saved.

Has the word “God” in your life become a ritual? God and you

Love – how the word has had it’s meaning dilluted in our world. It is so used and abused by everyone and everything. From people here and there to the media to the advertisments we see everywhere. Like the phrase “Love ko ‘to” It’s so… cliche

It is used so commonly – even when it isn’t supposed to be used for that instance or occassion. The meaning of love is so much than what we use it for now. It is so deep and it comes in many ways:

Info taken from: http://www.eldrbarry.net/marriage/clas/bm04.pdf

Desire – Attraction (epithumia)

Longing – Romance (Eros)

Belonging – Affection (Storge)

Cherishing – Friendship (Phile)

Selfless Giving – Christian Love/ Unconditional Love (Agape)

So as I have just posted here, there are different kinds of love because we cannot understand love as one – it is so great that we had to separate and segregate it to five different kinds (I even remember it used to be only 4 kinds) and yet we use the word ”love” in ways that it is not meant to be used – ways that are so shallow and vain and meaningless.

But enough about love, let’s move on to the word that I really want to talk about – God

We take the word “God” so much for granted. I am even apalled at myself that the word “God” has occassionally lost it’s impact and true meaning in my life. When in fact it is the most powerful word that has ever existed in the language of humankind.

It’s meaning is boundless, it’s reality is unimaginably majestic. It is Uncomprehensible. Sometimes when we pray – we just mumble words and oftentimes we don’t even expect it to happen anymore. We just say it. I don’t know why – maybe because it has turned into a ritual or a habit for us.

Imagine that!

Even I am guilty of that habit. We tend to forget that we – this generation – the generation that thinks so importantly of themselves – are created by God! Sometimes we take God and put Him in a lamp – He becomes a genie! No, less than a genie even, a genie that we don’t even believe is able to answer our prayers.

I was ashamed of myself even as I thought about it on the bus, that I have indeed lost faith in God and have even made the word “God” a stagnant and powerless word in my life. We abuse the word “Love” so much, that it has lost it’s meaning. And God is love – we can never separate that.

Sometimes when we think about it, the word “God” has lost it’s meaning in our lives. And God has lost His significance in our lives – why? There are a lot of reasons, and each one of us has his or her own set of reasons to give. But you know what? It doesn’t matter – because God is God. Can you even imagine the greatness of God? His majesty? He is all powerful and all knowing.

It might have started with a word – God. But when that word has lost it’s meaning in your life, Everything it stands for will lose significance in your life as well.

So let me encourage you, young men and women. Understand the meaning of the word God – in all it’s entirety and know the being that that word is solely made for. How? Through the Bible – never let a day pass without spending time communicating with God.

Pray and read His word everyday – that is the ONLY way your relationship with Him will grow.

A world built on believing: God and you

believe

I believe that a person is made up of beliefs. Everything that a person is, is built from his beliefs. Everything he says or do is rooted on his beliefs. A person is built on his beliefs.

There are people who believe very awkward things, such as superstitions, or maybe traditions or feng shui or even religion. Even atheists believe something, they believe that God doesn’t exist. We are creatures of belief. It is part of us. Beliefs are an essential part of our lives. For example, I believe that God can still use dreams to communicate with us, why? Because the Bible says (He says) that He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. And the methods that He used before, I believe He can still use today. Although some people don’t believe that, even pastors, and I respect them.

And isn’t it wonderful how we as people sometimes cling to beliefs as much as to die for them, and isn’t it a mystery that some people change their beliefs in a blink of an eye. There are just different kinds of people, different kinds of beliefs – but we as humans are all designed to believe.

There’s a reason for that, as everything holds reason. A world without beliefs is a broken world, a marred one. Where there are no stories, no conviction, nothing. Without the power to believe, we humans will be moving in a world where nothing will ever happen. Everything in this world is changed by beliefs.

Now think about it, we humans are creatures of believing, but what if we can already see the future? God can see the future. Do you think God can believe?

Let me tell you what I think. I think God believes. That’s why Jesus Christ died for you. Because God believes in you. He believes in the change you can effect in this world. He believes you are significant. He doesn’t only believe, He believes it wholly, whitout a doubt. He is assured of it. He KNOWS it.

And He also knows that we will all sin and fall, He knows that we WILL hurt him. But even then, He loved us. He died for us while we were still sinners. And He knows that we will keep on sinning, but He believed in us.

Everything in this universe is built on believing.

God believes in you, so why shouldn’t you believe in yourself?

Did God create evil? God and philosophy

This is one of the most controversial questions that everyone has in the back of his or her own mind. At some point in time, our human logic will ask why an all-powerful God would create the all-evil person that Christianity in our world today know as Satan.

And the question is really a valid one which makes sense to us as human beings who is trying to understand an incomprehensible God. But In this blog I would just like to share my point of view and my opinion about the “God creating Satan therefore creating evil” argument.

I think God gave all beings free will

I think God is so good that He doesn’t want his creation to be enslaved by Him or by anything. I think God wants the best for His creation and that’s why God gave us the freedom of choice. God granted His creation the gift of free will.

Evil is not created

Evil for me is defined as anything that goes against God – against His holiness. Evil therefore is not created. Evil is a choice. And in heaven, where I believe all angels have free will, Lucifer made a choice that went against God and His will. That’s how evil entered our story.

Angels have no reason to sin or to choose evil

Because God is in their presence they only have to focus on Him. They need not think of anything else than their great and awesome maker who is already in their presence. Angels have no reason to sin because they have all the reasons to obey God. If they make a mistake, they will have no excuse. Angels do not live in a fallen world. I believe that they might be the one Jesus talked about in the parable “The prodigal Son” I believe they are the firstborn.

We live in a fallen world

That’s why I always think that we are so fortunate, because every time we sin, we can be forgiven because God’s only Son died for us. How fortunate are we to have Jesus died for us! We who are a people so sinful and stiff-necked! We only have to turn away from our sinful ways and believe that Jesus did die for us and we are guaranteed 100% that we have salvation! That is the best thing that’s ever happened to the history of mankind and God.

Think about it

Evil exists and it is a choice – it’s the same in our case. But on the other hand, God exists and He is a choice as well. I choose God. I hope you will too.

And you think you have problems? Think again. Think harder. God and you

A repost from my multiply site
It was September 24, 2008  as I went home on the bus, tired from school as usual, my thoughts swirled around what I was talking about earlier at campus with my friend. We saw this person who was physically impaired. I mean, that person was really impaired! And that person that suffered from an abnormality really woke up pity in my heart. But not too long after as I was still walking with my friend, he started telling me how he would hate to be born into this world we now live in with a physical condition like that.
He explicitly told me that if ever he would have a child born with that abnormality, he would rather not have that child. And what he said really had me thinking.

It’s really tough being born unlike all the others – especially physically. Anyone around you can easily pick on you and call you names and other demoralizing and hurtful words. Even behind your back, sometimes it matters to us as human beings.

Looking at this person and his/her life (I use his/her because do not wish to reveal even the sex of the person) I was really encouraged and blessed by how this person perseveres with his/her studies and life. I even think that that person’s life is better off than most of the people I know, even myself at times. Why? Honestly I have no idea what gives that person the will and courage to persevere but I would think that it would very much have something to do with the way that person perceives things.

And how about us? We are in this good condition and in the right side of sanity, but when I see some of the people I know, their lives are more messed up than this physically impaired person. How and why is that? Well I think it’s all a matter of how we see things as human beings. I’ve learned a lot about point of view and decisions, and those two things make up most of our lives and mold us into who we are today. (I will tackle the third thing that make up ourselves – which I believe, is Belief – on another blog post)

Problems only become problems when we think negatively of our responsibilities as human beings and as roleplayers in the events of our lives. And this struck me, because lately I had a very negative mindset about almost everything! And I was having “Problems” here and there, or at least I thought I had – until I looked at it from another point of view. A BIGGER point of view… A person who believes in God – a Christian’s point of view.

And I thought, “Hey, if there would be problems in this life, why am I not giving it to the one who knows how to solve all the problems that the universe can muster?” I was making all the little problems I had bigger because I put God out of the picture. Then I realized – God will make your problems smaller because He is God and He created everything. Problem is, we oftentimes shrug Him aside and we want to handle all the problems on our own. We never even tend to think about God anymore. And for several reasons too – it might be because we hear how our friends or other people solved a problem similar to yours and you think “Maybe I ought to just do what he did…”

Problem is, your friend is also just as problematic as you and he is just as human as you are. So the solutions that we can make can only be so good. But God’s solution will always be the best.

From now on, when I have problems, I will ALWAYS turn to God first and then react within God’s parameters. If that person can face his/her problems (physical or not) with astounding perseverance, how much more you and I? We who are blessed with good and healthy bodies?

That person reminded me of a priceless thought in life and he/she does not even know how his/her imperfection have greatly influenced a person like me. People will be people no matter how imperfect they are, and God will use them no matter how they look like, how they feel or who they are.

Persevere through the troubles, you have a BIG God behind you!

Why does Satan keep doing what he’s doing even when he knows he can’t beat God? God and philosophy

I’ve always asked this question especially when I was new to my relationship with God. I’ve always thought: “Why, if God is so merciful, can’t He forgive Satan with what he’s done?” It only makes sense that an all-merciful God can forgive an all-evil person. But why isn’t it so? Why is Satan, as early as the first century, judged as doomed to hell already?

The three chief angels

There are three chief angels (as far as I know) in heaven who serves God: the angel Gabriel, who is God’s chief messenger, the angel Michael, who is God’s chief prince in battle or God’s general if you would put it so, and there was the angel Lucifer, who was God’s chief of worship. Of the three, who do you think has seen God’s full glory? That’s right – it was Lucifer.

He was in charge of giving glory to God in heaven – the chief of worship. That’s why of all the three He was, in turn, the most glorified by God. But he rebelled against God and wanted to BE God. Imagine, what could possibly ever bring you back to God if YOU HAVE ALREADY SEEN HIS FULL GLORY and yet YOU REBEL AGAINST HIM? Nothing.

Even if God would have forgiven Satan, I doubt that he would repent and turn back.

Now, on to the topic at hand, why does Satan keep doing what he’s doing?

Men are created in the image and likeness of God. That is what is written. God’s full joy is to glorify Himself and our full joy as human beings can only be accomplished when we glorify God. Now, Satan is determined to take away that joy from God and from us.

Every time that Satan tempts us to sin and we fall, it’s like God seeing Himself in us – sinning and ravishing His glory. It’s a slap to the face of God whenever we fall into sin. And Satan’s purpose today is the exact opposite of his purpose when he was in heaven. His main goal is now to shame God and to take away His glory or even just to desecrate it – and he can only do it through us who were created in the image and likeness of God.

Think about it.

You are created in God’s image and likeness and we are so fortunate that God allowed us to be able to be just like Him even if it’s just in our appearance and our traits. Always think hard about what you are to do with this gift of our likeness to Him. Every time you sin, it’s like you’re slapping God in the face, because after all, Satan is only half responsible for tempting us – in the end, it’s us ourselves who make the final decision if we’re going to fall for it or not.

Make a decision today. You don’t need to be perfect – but as long as you know you’re trying, it makes all the difference.

For those who love gossip, malice, slander and criticism or even those who think they don’t. God and you

Isn’t it so easy nowadays to say things to another person, especially with the use of technology? Sometimes we don’t even think twice anymore when we send a text message from our cellphones or a personal message from our ym. It has become so easy to criticize a person or to say somethings you don’t really mean. Sometimes we carelessy say things to blow off some steam because it makes us FEEL better. And technology has aided that part of our human nature.

I realized that controlling your tongue starts with controlling your mind. Nowadays we don’t use our tongue much anymore. We use our fingers to type and text. Now it’s “Tame the fingers” rather than “Tame the tongue”

Maybe you’re wondering why I made this blog. It was September 22, 2008 and I was just really upset because of someone who I’ve done so much for but apparently that person doesn’t appreciate or maybe that person just lacks a good sense of gratitude. I am really really upset beyond words by how that person have acted toward me today. And I thought about blowing off some steam here in my blog or in my YM status and I thought about it hard in the bus because I rode home alone so I had a lot of time to think.

It’s so easy to “Flame” that person or anyone for that matter with our technology now. It’s so easy to disregard any good thoughts about that person and just criticize and demoralize that person in front of all of your contacts in that social site you’re part of (Like multiply and facebook for example) and get away with it.

Then I remembered pastor Dennis Sy, my mentor and my friend in Christ and pastor L.A. whom I look up to as well. I read their blogs and I realized that everything that they put there are encouragements and things to get people pumped up in their faith. And then I stopped and thought “Should I still blog about what I am feeling?” Feelings can be treacherous and that feeling of mine in the bus was one of those misleading feelings.

Even if it would help me blow off steam and satisfy my being upset and disappointed, it would definitely not help my relationship with the person I’m “Flaming” (That’s my term for bashing or grinding with hurtful words or “Nagpaparinig” - all of those) and it would not solve anything. All the good times that I’ve had with that person were disregarded when I was on the bus but now when I think about it, it’s not worth “Flaming” that person over what that person has done for a week or two.

I was reviewing the book “How to win friends and influence people.” by Dale Carnegie (Which is probably the ultimate book in dealing with people. It is superb and I am not exaggerating one bit) And it reminded me of Lincoln’s story when he had general Lee within his hand’s grasp.

Taken from the Book: “How to win friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie

Yet if any man ever had the occasion to criticize, surely it was Lincoln.  Let’s take just one illustration:

The battle of Gettysburg was fought during the first three days of July 1863.  During the night of July 4, Lee began to retreat southward while storm clouds deluged the country with rain.  When lee reached the Potomac with his defeated army, he found the swollen, impassable river in front of him and a victorious Union Army behind him and.  Lee was in a trap.  He couldn’t escape.  Lincoln saw that.  Here was a golden, heaven-sent opportunity – the opportunity to capture Lee’s army and end the war immediately. So, with the surge of high hope, Lincoln ordered Meade not to call a council of war but to attack Lee immediately.

Lincoln telegraphed his orders and then sent a special messenger to Meade demanding immediate action.

And what did general Meade do? He did the very opposite of what he was told  to do. He called a council of war in direct violation of Lincoln’s order. He hesitated. He procrastinated. He telegraphed all manner of excuses. He refused point-blank to attack Lee. Finally, the waters receded and Lee escaped over the Potomac with his forces.

Lincoln was furious “What does this mean?” Lincoln cried to his son Robert “Great God what does this mean? We had them within our grasp, and had only to stretch forth our hands and they were ours; yet nothing that I could say or do could make the army move. Under the circumstances, almost any general could have defeated Lee. If I had gone up there, I could have whipped him myself.”

In bitter disappointment, Lincoln sat down and wrote Meade this letter. And remember, at this period of his life, Lincoln was extremely conservative and restrained in his phraseology. So this letter coming from Lincoln in 1863 was tantamount to the severest rebuke.

My dearest general,

I do not believe you appreciate the magnitude of the misfortune involved in Lee’s escape. He was within our easy grasp, and to have closed upon him would, in connection with our other late successes, have ended the war. As it is, the war will be prolonged indefinitely. If you could not attack Lee last monday, how can you possibly do so south of the river, when you can take with you very few- no more than two-thirds of the force you then had in hand? It would be unreasonable to expect and I do not expect that you can now effect much. Your golden opportunity is gone, and I am distressed immeasurably because of it.

What do you suppose Meade did when he read the letter?

Meade never saw that letter, Lincoln never mailed it. It was found among his papers after his death.

My guess is- and this is only a guess- that after writing that letter, Lincoln looked out of the window and said to himself, “Just a minute. Maybe I ought not to be so hasty. It is easy enough for me to sit here in the quiet of the White house and order Meade to attack; but if I had been up at Gettysburg, and if I had seen much blood as Meade has seen during the last week, and if my ears had been pierced with the screams and shrieks of the wounded and dying, maybe I wouldn’t be so anxious to attack either.

“If I had Meade’s timid temperament, perhaps I would have done just what he have done. Anyhow it is water under the bridge now. If I send this letter, it will relieve my feelings but it will make Meade try to justify himself. It will make him condemn me, It will arouse hard feelings, impair all his further usefulness as a commander, and perhaps force him to resign from the army.”

So, as I have already said, Lincoln put the letter aside, for he had learned by bitter experience that sharp criticisms and rebukes almost invariably end in futility.

- from the book “How to win friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie

This helped me remember a very important lesson and that is to repress  anything you want to say about another person that is not good. I thought about my being upset and decided that I’d rather not post it and “Flame” that certain person. I thought “Maybe if I was in that person’s shoes, I’d do just the same.” I had already given that person a lot of benefits of the doubt occasions and this will not be the last. Truth be told, I am still immeasurably upset about what happened earlier with that person, I cannot imagine that that person is capable of doing what that person has done. But it is water under the bridge now, and again, I will give that person the benefit of the doubt.

To everyone who will read this and has read this, please do pray for me. I appreciate each and every prayer for me. Pray for patience, kindness, joy and peace. Thanks and I hope you guys learned a lesson as well from this post. And to all my disciples: I’m always praying for you guys and I’m so happy that you’re practicing the taming of your tongue (and fingers for that matter)

Remember: “God Himself, sir, does not propose to judge man until the end of his days.” – Dr. Johnson.

So why should you and I?

Why does it seem so hard to read the Bible? Here’s the truth about it: God and His Word

A survey in the National study of youth and religion web site states that only 32% of protestant teenagers personally read their Bible. You might say “Well, 32% is not such a bad number.” But think about it, those 32% could mean millions or even billions of youths. “Read your Bible” now that’s a phrase we hear ever so often from our parents or pastors or even cel-group leaders. And we are so used to hearing it, that sometimes with just the look from their faces we can interpret that they are telling us the same thing, “Read your Bible”.

Word-of-GodThere would be times when reading the Bible is not an option, such as with our parents. Sometimes our parents force us to read it, “Or else.” Or else we do not get what we want such as watching the television or playing the computer or going out of the house to gimmick with friends. I used to be forced to read my Bible, and it was a pretty good bargain with my parents too. An hour of reading it, I would be able to play the computer for two hours! Wow! It’s just like buy one take one.

But as I grew deeper into my relationship with God, I realized that reading the Bible outside of your own will is utterly useless. Reading the Bible is like playing golf. Hitting that single, stationary ball seems so simple and easy and it seems like you can do it any time of the week. But there is so much more to it. Hitting that single, stationary ball takes a huge amount of athleticism, posture, stance and focus. Such as with reading the Bible, it takes the wisdom of God, wisdom that can only be given to us through the Holy Spirit for us to understand it.

Let me ask you a question: “Do you think there is another way for your relationship with God to grow, other than reading the Bible and praying?” You see, those two come hand in hand. Relationship, any relationship, can only grow through communication. And how do you communicate with someone when he or she never talks back? Communication must be two-way for it to build a relationship and how we build a relationship with our parents, our friends and siblings is exactly the same as how we build it with our God.

We do not chatter to our parents and never expect them to answer, right? We always want other people’s opinions, other people’s say about what we are telling or sharing to them. Otherwise, our relationship would seem stale, dull, boring and unmoving and our relationship will never grow. It’s the same with our relationship with God.

Relationship must be two-way. And in our case with God, it will only grow through praying and reading the Bible, which is God’s word, everyday. There is no other way, and this is the truth, no other way for your relationship with God to grow other than reading the Bible and praying everyday. It’s so simple and easy to do that we tell ourselves “I can do this any time I want” and so we never do it. But when we tell ourselves “I must talk with my God, my Father in heaven who knows everything I’m going through” Then we make time to read it.word embrace

We should never just find the time to read and pray, but we make the time ourselves. Just as we make time in doing our homework, playing sports, playing computer games and everything else. Extra time would mean time that we could waste. King David once said “I will not give to God that which costs me nothing.” And that personally applies to me. If the time I give to God is extra time, a time I can waste, a time which costs me nothing, then I would rather not give it. But I will give God a time that is precious to me, a time that I have kept and preserved only for Him.

Always remember, God is the God of the Heavens and the Earth, He is great and mighty and no one will ever be compared to Him. God is the most important person in our lives and yet we tend to talk to Him least. I challenge you, young men and women talk to God more, speak to Him and you will see that reading the Bible and praying everyday is never the same as how you imagined it to be. There is power in talking with God, Joshua 1:8 says “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth, meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” So claim that promise of our great God!

Adultery 2.0: God and the world

Ever heard of web 2.0? It’s the new web technology where everything is integrated to focus and to centralize on the user rather than the sites. Like facebook, twitter, plurk and multiply – they’re building bonds for them to centralize their data and services to the user rather than web 1.0 where the users have to make and build their own identity in each of those sites over and over again.

Web 2.0 is the latest innovation in web technology. But let’s talk about our topic for now which is Adultery 2.0. First let me describe the previous version which is Adultery 1.0. It existed even way before the time of Jesus. People weren’t content with their lives and their family and their spouses and they tend to look for love from somewhere else – often in the places God warns them not to look into. Adulterous men and women existed way beyond past times even in the early days. Why do so many people indulge themselves in adultery? Well, maybe because they found sex outside of marriage to be pleasurable and exciting. Or maybe even because they wanted experienced partners. Or maybe because… And the list goes on and on. People never run out of excuses for the things they know are wrong.

I’ve stumbled upon an article in Time Magazine which is entitled “Adultery 2.0” and I thought, “What the heck is the world coming to?” I thought the magazine would criticize it and flame it down, but instead, it seemingly advertised it.
Its first paragraph reads: “Two-timing politicians, take note: cheating has never been easier.
In all of my life, I never would have thought I would experience time magazine to encouragingly advertise such things as an adultery social website. It even boasts of the statistics of the site which they say averages 679,000 a month in visits and usage counts.

The article says that the site’s usage shoots up whenever its fathers day or valentines day where fathers, and loved ones feel neglected and they tend to look for love someplace else. And when they (The website and the company that owns it) were criticized for being immoral and feeding upon families and relationships, the CEO of the company says, and this shocked me and made me think for quite a while: We’re just a platform, no website or 30-second ad is going to convince any-one to cheat. People cheat because their lives aren’t working for them.

And I thought, he has a point. No one can ever convince you to cheat but yourself. You cheat because you want to. Why? Because you can’t find love in the people whom you thought you could and who has the responsibility to. The love of the world has grown cold as the Bible says and that is coming true even now right before our very eyes. People don’t greet each other in church anymore. They don’t try to get to know new people anymore. People everywhere are minding their own businesses. Even when they see someone who’s in need of immediate help, they wouldn’t care because they would tend to think that there’s always someone else to help that other person or they would think it’s a hassle for them. The world has changed – exactly just as how Jesus predicted it would.

So I urge you, men and women, love the ones whom you have the responsibility to love. Even when no one is telling you or forcing you to, love them or you are going to lose them forever. BECAUSE PRIDE WILL TAKE OVER when the relationship is marred too deeply. Love is not just an emotion, it’s an action and a decision. A decision that is made beforehand. A decision that CANNOT be compromised. Make that decision today so that when the time comes and you are tempted, you can say NO to it. Love is bigger than just an emotion and a feeling.

The love of the world has grown cold, and there are only a few who can still love faithfully. Adultery and premarital sex is increasing everywhere because that is the idea of love today. But it’s love that will not last and will only hurt in the end. It is definitely not love but lust although the world has coated it so nicely that you wouldn’t know the difference unless you face the consequences.
For what it’s worth, when the CEO of this adultery site was asked how he would feel if his wife was using the site, he admits: “I would be devastated.”

Make your decision about loving your spouse today. Adultery is a sin. God would not let it go unpunished.

Men who’ve been to the moon – Even fantasies have an ending, happy or not: God and you

I’m one who loves fantasy stories. My favourite Bible stories are those of a supernatural account. My favourite movies are the Lord of the rings trilogy and Stardust. I love reading books about fantasy and fiction. All in all, I’m one heck of a fantasy guy.

man in the moon neil armstrong

Was reading an article in time magazine entitled “Moon Walkers” and it talked about men who’ve been on the moon. They had different experiences in their space travels and in their time being on the moon and exploring its physique. These men have been to a place other than Earth. In all of history, they’ve never imagined of attaining such a feat. But now something which used to be impossible has been achieved.

Going to the moon used to be a fantasy. And in the minds of these men, they’ve done something which only was possible in the fantasy of their lives. The article then talks of what happened when they got back. And they explained about how they shot up in fame, getting movie directors make a film about them and their lives and their adventures. But back on Earth, they realized, “What am I doing here?”

They were back from their place of fantasy. They were back in reality. In Earth, where you have to work for money, where you have to eat to live, where there are other people who don’t know you, who don’t care, where fun is temporary and where everything is always busy. They were back here on Earth and that’s the first question that shot up in their minds.

Made me think: What if… What if we were like them. We achieved the fantasy of our lives. We got to where we wanted to be. I don’t care if it’s real or not. But then, even after we have achieved it and have come to the place we wanted to be, wouldn’t we, sooner or later go back to reality? At least to the reality of age and death?

It’s a sad thing, to see the picture of Neil Armstrong when he was young and strong and had all his dreams and goals ahead of him, and now he’s 75 and he’s here on Earth and he’s old and the new generation has come up and his generation is fading. What will matter in all he did? Will his landing on the moon matter forever? Will his achieving his fantasies matter when he’s old or even when he’s dying?

It just made me think. And it made me realize that we really have to focus our hearts on the things that are eternal. Even fantasies have an ending – happy or not. But the things that are eternal will never come to pass.

We’re all moonwalkers at some point in our lives. But the important thing about it is, what do we do once we get back to our Earth? What happens when reality hits us in the face and we’re leagues away from that fantasy life we’ve dreamed?

Think about it.
